On the ‘World EV Day’, Tata Motors has revealed its plan to expand its electric product portfolio in the coming years. The company has confirmed that it will introduce 10 new electric vehicles (EVs) across different segments, body styles and affordability levels. The new Tata Tiago Electric hatchback will be one of the upcoming Tata EVs that will soon hit the roads. Though, the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed its launch date. The Tiago EV will be the smallest electric offering from the home-grown automaker in the country.
Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said that the company is leading the EV market with a major share of 88 per cent. Currently, the carmaker’s EV product lineup includes two models – Tigor EV and Nexon EV. With its next phase of EV market expansion, Tata said to offer “all the EV benefits of an exciting yet easy drive, silent cabin, low cost of ownership to a more accessible level”.
Just so you know, the home-grown automaker unveiled the Tata Tiago electric at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Though, the upcoming model will be based on the facelifted model that was introduced in early 2020. While its official powertrain details are yet to be announced, the Tata Tiago EV could be offered a 26kWh or a 30.2kWh battery pack borrowed from the Tigor EV or Nexon EV respectively. Its range is expected to be around 300km on a single charge.
The electric hatchback will feature Tata’s advanced Ziptron high-voltage architecture that consists of a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor along with the lithium-ion battery pack. The lithium-ion cell will meet the IP67 water and dustproofing standards as it does in the Tigor EV and Nexon EV.
