Jermell Charlo defeated Brian Castano via knockout in the 10th round of Saturday night’s headline fight in Carson, Calif. With the win, Charlo becomes the undisputed super welterweight champion and the first ever 154-pound undisputed champion in the four-belt era.
Charlo (35-1-1) entered the fight with the WBC, IBF and WBA titles, while Castano (17-1-2) was the WBO titleholder. Saturday’s bout was a rematch of their 2021 meeting, which was declared a draw. The scorecards read 114-113 (Castano), 117-111 (Charlo) and 114-114.
The rematch was originally scheduled for March 19, but it was postponed after Castano suffered a partially torn right biceps in sparring.
