Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar was furious after fights broke out in the stand following Pakistan’s one-wicket win over Afghanistan on Wednesday, September 8, at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 match wasn’t a high-scoring one, but was high on intensity. The game went right down to the wire where Pakistan needed 11 runs to win off the last over while chasing 130.
However, Naseem Shah smashed Fareed Malik for back-to-back sixes and helped the Men in Green win with four balls to spare. After the game, it was seen that the fans in the stands were involved in violent acts where chairs were being thrown. Shoaib was clearly not happy with what panned out after the end of the encounter.
The veteran also tagged former CEO of Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Shafiq Stanikzai, in his Twitter post.
Captioning a video of the incident, Shoaib wrote, “This is what Afghan fans are doing. This is what they’ve done in the past multiple times. This is a game and it’s supposed to be played and taken in the right spirit. @ShafiqStanikzai your crowd & your players both need to learn a few things if you guys want to grow in the sport.”

Earlier, Akhtar also lashed out at the Afghanistan team after Fareed Malik and Asif Ali’s heated exchange of words on the ground. During the fag end of the run-chase, Asif was seen losing his cool after which he raised his bat.
Shoaib, the record-holder for the fastest delivery in international cricket, said that ‘arrogant’ behaviour led to Afghanistan’s defeat.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Afghan players put right back into their place by 19 year old kid Naseem Shah. Unforgettable match against people we have loved & supported always. Lekin bat tamizi aur arrogance nay un no foran neecha dikhaya.”
