Chelsea Under-23 scored a late winner at Cobham to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 and preserve their place in Premier League 2.
The result relegates Leeds United, who go down alongside Derby County. Manchester City won the league for the second year in a row, six points clear of West Ham United.
Chelsea’s struggles this season have been surprising, with the club having won Premier League 2 in 2019-20, and having produced several talented players to the Chelsea senior squad. The Under-19 team have also struggled.
Needing a win to overhaul Leeds, who drew 1-1 with Arsenal in their final match last week, Chelsea found themselves behind to Kion Etete’s 57th minute opener.
However, 19-year-old winger Dion Rankine gave Chelsea a chance with ten minutes remaining, but the west London side still needed a goal.
It duly came from 17-year-old Lewis Hall, who impressed on his senior debut in the FA Cup, sending Chelsea safe with an 88th minute winner.
Leeds’ relegation comes on the same day that head coach Jesse Marsch stated his intention to have “the best academy in Europe” in three years.
