Chelsea duo Kovacic and Kante could be involved in FA Cup final vs Liverpool — Tuchel

Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante could be involved for Chelsea in their FA Cup final against Liverpool, head coach Thomas Tuchel has said.

Kovacic sustained an ankle injury and was forced off on the 30-minute mark during Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Leeds United on Wednesday evening after a challenge from Daniel James.

When asked whether Kovacic has participated in training during a pre-match press conference, Tuchel said: “We will try it today. The medical department gave the green light to try it.

“There is no new injury but heavy pain, heavily swollen. So we’re hoping that maybe time is enough that he makes it.”

Similarly, Tuchel added that Kante is also trying to be for the final. He said: “It was a reduced training session because of a long travel and fatigue of travelling.

“We will also try with him today. He is keen to make it and hopefully he makes it to training 100 per cent.”

Similarly, Kante was left out for a third successive match as he continues his return from injury that saw him last feature against Manchester United on April 28.

On the fitness of both players, Tuchel added that “it is the moment to take risks”.
