The Bucks have canceled Sunday’s Game 7 watch party at Fiserv Forum following multiple shootings in downtown Milwaukee on Friday night after Game 6. The Bucks face the Celtics in the second-round playoff series finale in Boston at 3:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
“The shootings that happened in downtown Milwaukee last night were horrific and we condemn this devastating violence,” the team said in a statement. “We are grateful to local law enforcement for its valiant efforts to try to contain what was a dangerous and fluid situation. While these incidents took place outside of Deer District property, it clearly resonated with fans coming out of the arena and leaving the plaza.”
According to the police, 21 people were injured as a result of the three separate shootings. Three people were shot near Deer District outside Fiserv Forum toward the end of Friday night’s game. One person was injured in a second shooting and then a third occurred a mile from the arena that left 17 people with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A 19-year-old man is in custody in connection with the first shooting and a gun was recovered at the scene, according to Assistant Police Chief Nicole Waldner.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said the city imposed a curfew for the downtown area, requiring everyone age 20 or younger to be off the street by 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will also be an extra police presence.
“We cannot have that in this city, nor anywhere else in this state, nor anywhere else in this country,” Johnson said.
