The festive season is just around the corner and car manufacturers have started rolling out new products in the market. In the next couple of weeks, there will two major SUV launches including the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Both SUVs have a lot of things in common and a very few differences. Here’re key details the upcoming Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.
Variant Details
The new Maruti SUV model lineup will be available in 10 variants spread across six trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, Zeta+ and Alpha+. The Toyota Hyryder will be available in E, S, G and V trims.
Hybrid Powertrains
Designed on Suzuki’s Global C platform, the new Maruti and Toyota SUVs will be offered with the mild and strong hybrid powertrains. The mild hybrid setup includes a 1.5L K15C engine with Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and delivers a claimed power of 103bhp and 137Nm of torque. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Suzuki’s All-Grip AWD system has been exclusively offered on the manual Alpha trim.
The strong hybrid powertrain consists of Toyota’s 1.5L TNGA Atkinson Cycle motor that’s good enough for 92bhp and 122Nm. The engine is paired to an electric motor generating power worth 79bhp and 141Nm of torque. The combined power output stands at 115bhp. It comes with Toyota’s e-drive transmission. There is a 177.6V lithium-ion battery that’s said to cover 40% of the total distance and 60% time in pure EV mode.
Mileage
The Indo-Japanese automaker has confirmed the strong hybrid Maruti Grand Vitara promises fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl. The mild hybrid version delivers 21.11kmpl with 2WD manual and 20.58kmpl with 2WD automatic gearbox setup. It’s AllGrip AWD variant returns mileage of 19.38kmpl.
Interior, Features
Both SUVs have been packed with advanced connectivity and safety features. The range-topping variants come with some exclusive features such as Arkamys surround sound system, leatherette seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, drive modes (AWD only), a 360 degree camera, standard panoramic sunroof, tyre pressure monitor, hill descent control (AWD only) and roof rails.
The list also includes a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient interior lighting, connected car tech, voice assist with Google and Siri compatibility, a full digital instrument, auto folding wing mirrors, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, Auto LED headlamps with follow-me home functions and more. You will get Head-Up Display, a panoramic sunroof and wireless charging only with the strong hybrid variants.
Design Elements
Featuring their signature grille and bumper, the new Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder look different from the front end. Maruti Suzuki’s SUV has a wider grille and squarish LED headlamps than the Hyryder. It’s DRLs have new three-element Nexa design. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has a sleek grille, more angular headlamps, split DRLs, sportier air dam and a faux carbon fibre finish. Both models have dark silver skid plate.
Moving to the sides, both SUVs look exactly similar sporting a rising window line, blacked pillars, squared wheel arches, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a flat roofline. Though, the alloy wheel design is different. At the rear, the Maruti Grand Vitara has three-element LED taillamps connected via a thin LED light strip. The Toyota Hyryder has sharp taillamps connected through a large chrome trim.
Colour Options
Maruti Suzuki’s new SUV will be offered in 9 colour schemes – Nexa Blue, Arctic White, Grandeur Grey, Splendid Silver, Chestnut Brown, Opulent Red, Splendid Silver with Black, Arctic White with Black and Opulent Red with Black.
The Toyota Hyryder will come in 9 different shades, namely, Café White, Enticing Silver, Gaming Grey, Sporting Red, Cave Black, Midnight Black, Speedy Blue, Enticing Silver with Black, Sporting Red with Black, Speedy Blue with Black and Café White with Black.
